Following the passing of Carroll County Chief Magistrate Court Judge Al Johnson over the weekend, Carroll County Chairman Michelle Morgan is working with Chief Superior Court Judge John Simpson to determine the legal steps to find an at least temporary replacement to ensure the court continues to function properly.
According to state law “…unless otherwise provided by local law, a vacancy in the office of chief magistrate shall be filled by an appointment by majority vote of the judges of superior court for the remainder of the unexpired term.”
Johnson won re-election to a new 4-year term in 2020.
