Carroll County Commission Looking Toward New Budget

Carroll County Commission Chairman, Marty Smith is looking toward next week to sit down with the countyÂ’s financial department to review preliminary financial numbers, ahead of his proposal of the 2018-2019 county budget to commissioners in May.

Smith said Wednesday that revenues appear to be up a little, ” We’re seeing things turnaround, economy wise. We’re hoping to keep expenses down and we’ll have preliminaries next week and really see what kind of year we had. We have a meeting with our health insurance and that has been a killer ever since I have been on the board. It looks like we are going to stay close to neutral or flat this year. That’s a very good sign that we don’t start off the year with a big increase. We have faced anywhere from 6% to 22% increases since I’ve been there. Just staying flat is huge. We may even get a little bit of a decrease.”

Commissioners will approve a budget in June. The budget covers from July 1st of 2018 through June 30th of 2019.
