On Thursday, the Carroll County Board of Education voted to increase the 2018 property taxes it will levy this year by a 1.83% over the rollback millage rate. By retaining the 2017 millage rate of 17.998, Carroll County Schools are expected to collect an additional $1.8 million through property taxes over last year. That equates to a 5.53% increase over 2017. The biggest percentage increase since at least 2013.
School officials said maintaining the rate allows the district to balance the budget for 2018-2019, as well as invest additional funds in school safety and purchase additional buses.
