Carrollton Police continue to investigate – what they – at this time – believe to be a murder suicide – involving a former serviceman – and his partner.
According to police – on October 15th – after 8pm – an officer was asked to do a welfare check on a couple – residing in the River Pointe Apartments on Lovvorn Road.
The officer visited the address – and knocked on the door of the specified apartment. There was no response from inside.
The concerned caller said they had not been in touch with 21-year old RICHARD AUSTIN GARNER – for two days. They advised that Austin had stopped taking medication for anxiety and depression about two months prior… was 80% disabled through the VA… and had attempted suicide by motorcycle accident one time – two years ago.
After Garner’s family members arrived on scene – apartment personnel entered the apartment – and soon advised that law enforcement needed to come inside.
Police entered – to find a “female sitting in an office chair with her body slumped sideways over the armrest and her head leaning backwards.” She is identified as 24-year old PENYHA ANNETTE ROBINSON.
Police then found “a male sitting – facing the female with his legs crossed and body slumped forward – with his hands under his chest and his head (clearly injured). He is identified as Garner.

“As I understand it, he (Garner) was struggling with depression and other challenges that we may never fully comprehend. While this does not excuse his actions, it underscores the importance of reaching out to our loved ones and friends who might need help or a kind word.
