Carrollton High School students have once again topped the national average in SAT performance while increasing the number of participants in the popular college entrance exam. Additionally, CHS students outperformed other area schools, leading both in test participation and overall performance.
Carrollton’s Class of 2024 achieved impressive results on the SAT, with a mean total score of 1017, 22 points higher than the national average of 995. Students also surpassed national averages in both Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW) and math, earning mean scores of 522 and 495, respectively, compared to the national averages of 507 and 488.

The class also achieved the highest SAT participation rate it has seen in recent years, with more than 60 percent of students taking the exam. This strong participation highlights the school’s commitment to academic success and college readiness.
“We are proud of our students’ performance, but just as proud of the high number of kids who chose to take the test,” said CHS Principal Ian Lyle. “I’m grateful to our teachers and counseling department for emphasizing the importance of college readiness and for their dedication in ensuring our students achieve their college aspirations.”
Five years ago, CHS began offering students the option to take the test during regular school hours. The school offers this option once in the fall and once in the spring.
“Transportation, extracurricular schedules, and other conflicts often prevent students from testing outside of school hours,” said CHS Assistant Principal Courtney Walker. “Offering the SAT during the school day allows us to support more students in their college and career planning, regardless of their circumstances.”
Additionally, CHS offers an SAT prep course during school hours where students can work on their test-taking skills.
“Doing everything we can to ensure our students are prepared and know what to expect when it comes time to take the SAT is a top priority at CHS,” said Walker. “Providing them the opportunity to take the SAT prep course is an additional way we work to support their success.”
