Investigators with Georgia State Patrol say a man and woman were killed when their Audi Sedan flipped after attempting to negotiate a curve in Carrolton late Thursday.
According to information released by GSP Post 4-Villa Rica Friday morning, troopers were assisting Carrollton Police with a road check on Northside Drive at Stewart Street.
The report states: “At approximately 10:48 p.m., two occupants in an Audi Sedan displayed ID cards to a Carrollton Police Officer…”
The officer reportedly noticed an “open container” in the vehicle and asked that the driver pull off into a nearby gas station parking lot. The driver obliged. As the officer approached the Audi on foot, the car sped away, heading west on Northside Drive.
“The Audi… failed to negotiate a left curve at the intersection of GA 113. The Audi left the roadway, struck the wood line, overturned on its roof, caught fire, entrapping the occupants,” the report continued.
The crash happened a very short time after the Audi left the checkpointÂ… and no officers pursued the Audi, according to the GSP report.
The driver was Khalil Dewayne Johnson, 26 YOA of Covington. The passenger was Vlada Bonnette Anderson, 26 YOA of Indianapolis, IN.
Johnson reportedly had numerous open warrants for his arrest prior to the incident.
