According to HCSO Lt. Heather Mecillas: On April 22, 2025, at little before 3:00 PM, members of the Joint Crime Suppression Operational Task Force Unit were on I-20. The Operational Interstate Task Force is a compact where deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are sworn in as Haralson County deputies to work crime suppression on the I-20 corridor. On this date, CSU Deputy Chad Sheriff and CSU Cpl. Jarrett Chandler were working together on I-20.
CSU Deputy Sheriff observed a maroon sedan passing other vehicles at a high rate of speed while traveling in the fast left lane and was able to clock it at 92 MPH in a 70 MPH zone. CSU Sheriff went to stop the vehicle and observed it reach speeds of 101 MPH; the driver was also following other cars too closely and cutting other vehicles off.
The vehicle was stopped and the driver, identified as Kyzeri Hardy, was asked to step out of the vehicle. When Hardy stepped out, CSU Deputy Sheriff could smell the odor of green and burned Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. CSU Deputy Sheriff asked for consent to search the vehicle and Hardy said no. CSU Deputy Sheriff conducted a free air sniff with K-9 Sita, and the K-9 alerted on the drivers and passengers’ side of the sedan.
During the search of the vehicle, a stolen firearm from the Atlanta Police Department, approximately 6.9 ounces of suspected marijuana, and two stolen drivers’ licenses were located that were stolen from entering autos in Douglas County. The passenger in the vehicle was identified by Cpl. Chandler as a 12-year-old runaway who was in DFCS (Department of Family and Children Services) custody out of Atlanta. Fulton County DFCS was notified and later, the juvenile was turned over to Haralson County DFCS to coordinate with Fulton County.
Kyzeri Saconni Hardy, a 23-year-old B/M out of Douglasville Georgia was arrested and charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property (firearm), Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon, Possession of Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, VGCSA – Possession of Marijuana, and Identity Theft.
“This valuable partnership with Douglas County Sheriff’s Office gives us the ability to have more manpower on I-20, which enables us to combat the drug, gun and human trafficking that unfortunately happens on most major interstates,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “We appreciate Sheriff Tim Pounds and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for forming this Joint Crime Suppression Operational Task Force Unit with us. They bring valuable experience to the table and our Crime Suppression Unit members are gaining much knowledge working with them. I have said many times that teamwork with agencies around us benefits all of our citizens, this joint venture is doing just that.”
